twin oaks intentional community

Twin Oaks is a commune or intentional community of radical dreamers founded in 1967. Inspired originally by the b.f. skinner utopia Walden Two, later influenced by sixties hippie culture, we are nowadays further guided by ideals of feminism, renewable resources, ecovillages, social justice, organic agriculture and more.

Situated on a large tract of wooded rural land in central Virginia USA with approximately 80 adult members plus kids, we are an income-sharing commune holding core values of non-violence, egalitarianism, and environmentalism.

We are partially or fuly self sufficient in many areas, providing many of our own goods and services: growing and preparing organic food, operating a small dairy, building and repairing our own well-insulated alternative energy featured buildings and much more. We also earn cash income by manufacture of hammocks and other leisure furniture, production of organic soy products like tofu and tempeh, and book indexing.
